Meet Saskia Strating, our Project Manager

Saskia Strating has been working at HoSt Group since 1995 and has seen the company grow from a small team into an international player in sustainable energy technology. “When I started, we were with seven people. We mainly carried out energy studies for companies. Back then, I would never have imagined building installations of 25 megawatts.”

From a small team to global projects

Saskia Strating has been working at HoSt Group since 1995 and has seen the company grow from a small team into an international player in sustainable energy technology. “When I started, we were with seven people. We mainly carried out energy studies for companies. Back then, I would never have imagined building installations of 25 megawatts.”

Today, Saskia is a project manager within the Thermal Technology business unit, responsible for complex energy projects from design to commissioning.

In her role, Saskia oversees projects from start to finish. “It starts with the design: what are we going to build and what do we need? Then comes the construction phase, where you always encounter challenges. Solving those together is part of the job.”

The most rewarding moment comes at the end. “When an installation is commissioned and everything works as intended, that is still the best part.” She is currently working on a large-scale project in Germany, delivering steam from a 25 MW installation to an industrial client. She also looks back with pride on previous international projects, including in Latvia and Romania.

Growing with the organization

Saskia has experienced every phase of HoSt Group’s development. “From a small team where you knew everyone, to an organisation with hundreds of colleagues worldwide. That growth was impressive, but also took some getting used to.” Within her own team, the atmosphere remains close-knit. “Our Thermal Technology team is still relatively small. That keeps communication direct and the team spirit strong.”

Working on international projects

The international nature of her work is one of the most interesting aspects. “You work with colleagues and partners from different countries. In projects like Romania, we collaborated with local parties and colleagues from Latvia.” This requires flexibility and adaptability. “You deal with different cultures, different ways of working and sometimes language barriers. That makes it challenging, but also very rewarding.”

A culture of opportunity and responsibility

What appealed to Saskia from the beginning was the freedom she was given. “You really get the opportunity to develop yourself. You are given responsibility and the space to take initiative.” At the same time, that comes with expectations. “You need to enjoy figuring things out yourself and taking responsibility. The projects are large and complex, so you need to be able to handle pressure.”

Long-term involvement

After more than thirty years, Saskia is still closely connected to HoSt Group. “It has truly become part of my life. My children even say: you will never leave this company.” That connection goes beyond the work itself. “We do a lot together as a team and as a company. That social aspect has always been important and still is, even with the growth.”

Working on meaningful projects

For Saskia, it is the combination of technology and impact that makes the work special. “You are building installations that generate energy and contribute to a more sustainable industry. That makes the work tangible and relevant.” Her advice to potential new colleagues: “If you enjoy working on large, complex projects and are not afraid to take responsibility, this is the right place for you.”
