Functieomschrijving

For the Business Development department we are looking for interns! The following internships / graduation assignments are available. Apply using the apply button and select the (graduation) internship you are interested in.

The internships on this page are:

1: The (Bright) future of e-/bio-fuels;
2: Landfill gas upgrading;
3: RDF Combustion.

1 The (Bright) future of e-/bio-fuels

BSc / MSc in Industrial Engineering & Management / Chemical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Sustainable Energy;

Together with our daughter company, Bright Renewables, we are developing our first e-methanol project in the Netherlands. This futuristic project is aiming to combine biogenic CO2 and green hydrogen to produce the fuel of the future! With the addition of the e/bio-fuel technology we interlink with the existing hydrogen, carbon capture and CO2 liquefaction technologies within the HoSt Group, reducing the need for fossil fuels.

We are not only very enthusiastic about this technology, but we are also looking for a student that is looking to decarbonize the future! You will be focussing on developing the business case and market strategy for the e/bio-fuels that the HoSt Group can offer. Although the main focus is on the e-/bio-fuels you will also look into the other complementary technologies, such as carbon capture and SMR/electrolysis. Ultimately your work will contribute to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels and work on an interesting topic where you can really contribute to a sustainable future!

Together with our sales colleagues, business developers, and engineering team, you will explore this new technology, learn more about its applications, and see the impact we can make together. You will work within our business development team, gaining a deeper understanding of the technology. Together with our sales departments, we aim to add this new technology to our portfolio. Are you ready for the challenge?

Your tasks:

  • Develop a market strategy for the new technology;

  • Together with our sales and engineering colleagues look in to the sizing and associated costs;

  • Develop the business case model for the new technology;

  • Look at opportunities (biogas contracting/carbon capture-as-a-service) to apply this new technology in Europe and beyond.

2 Landfill gas upgrading

BSc / MSc in Industrial Engineering & Management / Chemical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Sustainable Energy;

Landfilling of general waste is one of the least favourable options for handling waste in the waste hierarchy, mainly because landfills produce pollutants such as leachate and greenhouse gases like methane. Methane has a significant negative effect on climate change and must be reduced! Landfilling is still a common practice in Europe and the negative effects of landfilling (methane production) are long lasting throughout the lifetime of these landfills.

Luckily, we at the HoSt Group have developed new technology to purify and upgrade landfill gas — a mixture of methane and other gases — into valuable biomethane. This biomethane can be injected into the grid and even replace natural gas one-to-one and prevent polluting methane emissions from landfill sites. How cool is that!

Did you know that in Europe alone there are tens of thousands of active landfill sites producing immense amounts of methane? We want to change that! We are looking for an enthusiastic student to help us develop a strategy to bring this new technology to market and ultimately reduce greenhouse gas emissions from landfill sites around the world.

Together with our sales colleagues, business developers, and engineering team, you will explore this new technology, learn more about its applications, and see the impact we can make together. You will work within our business development team, gaining a deeper understanding of the technology. Together with our sales departments, we aim to add this new technology to our portfolio.

Your tasks:

  • Develop a go-to-market strategy for the new technology including a market- and stakeholder analysis;

  • Together with our sales and engineering colleagues look in to the sizing and associated costs;

  • Develop the business case model for the new technology;

  • Look at opportunities (landfills) to apply this new technology in Europe and beyond.

3 RDF Combustion

BSc / MSc in Industrial Engineering & Management / Chemical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Sustainable Energy;

In 2024 the first RDF combustion facility built by the HoSt Group became operational and it has been a success! At this installation RDF – Refused Derived Fuel (waste) – is produced at a paper factory and the RDF waste is converted to renewable heat and electricity. A unique selling point of this inhouse developed technology by the HoSt group is that it’s a medium sized waste incineration plant (15-20MW thermal power) , which enables the end-user (industry, district heating, green houses etc) to effectively utilize the produced energy (thermal energy and electricity), while the current state of the art are large scale waste incinerators (>200MWth) where large quantities of heat are typically cooled away and not used.

The application of our existing combustion technology with RDF has a great potential to produce significant amounts of useful renewable energy, replacing fossil fuels  and reduce greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. We are looking for an enthusiastic student to help us and develop a go-to-market strategy to apply this technology at various end users, including industry and residential heating You will discuss the technology internally and determine potential applications for our sales and own-to-operate portfolio and find concrete leads to look into.

Together with our sales colleagues, business developers, and engineering team, you will explore this new technology, learn more about its applications, and see the impact we can make together. You will work within our business development team, gaining a deeper understanding of the technology. Are you ready for the challenge?

Your tasks:

  • Develop a go-to-market strategy for the new technology, including a market- and stakeholder analysis;

  • Together with our sales and engineering colleagues look in to the sizing and associated costs;

  • Develop the business case model for the new technology;

  • Look at opportunities (paper factories and others) to apply this new technology in Europe and beyond.
