Job description
For the R&D Technology engineering department we are looking for interns! The following internships / graduation assignments are available. Apply using the apply button and select the (graduation) internship you are interested in.
Removing/Washing VOCs from Biogas
Bright, business unit part of the HoSt Group, builds biogas upgrading systems. Before the CO2 can be separated with membranes from the biogas, the gas needs to be cleaned. VOCs are now separated by active carbon technology. The research project is to develop a system to wash the biogas at a very low temperature by glycol. The system should include a system to separate the dissolved VOCs and from the glycol. The development should be applicable for the Biogas plant Wabico (10 million Nm3 methane annual).
Your tasks:
- Calculate how much VOCs could probably separate by Glycol;
- Design the washer and the system to separate water and VOC’s;
- Calculate the influence on Compressor and cooling energy (now also water must be condensed).

Advanced Climate control system
The internal climate control systems available are not very advanced in forecasting the heat demand, needed temperature etc. HoSt has at the office a rather complex heating and cooling system. With a ground cooling / heat pump system, and an air cooled heating and cooling system. A floor heating system and top heating and cooling system. This project contains several steps: each could be done by an intern. The first step is writing a program to control the system and data collection of the rooms temperatures, outdoor temperature water heating temperatures, heat and cold demands, electricity consumption etc. The second step is to make a self-learning system. In the existing situation often in the night the floor is heated and during the day it is to warm and cold is needed.
Your tasks:
- Learn the system;
- Program the control system;
- Visualization of the system:, tough screen control;
- Gathering data and AI on the control system.

Straw Pellet Line
HoSt is building digesters for own exploration. In the Netherlands the biomass sources are limited. Therefore HoSt is looking for digestible material abroad and also looking for potential locations abroad. One option is to use straw. From experience HoSt knows that pelletised straw will give about 50% more biogas pro ton. It also digest quicker. HoSt therefore is investigating if an own straw pellet line could be interesting. The goal is to design a straw pellet line for a capacity of approx. 50.000 tons annual. The line should also have the straw handling line/pre-treatment logistics.
Your tasks:
- Process design, investigating needed equipment;
- Detailed design (lay-out , input line, output line, logistics);
- Calculate the investment (CAPEX);
- Calculate the OPX, cash-flow.
